• Welcome to Exhibit Corpse!

Exhibit Corpse, borrowing from the surrealist exercise, "Exquisite Corpse," builds community through the vibrancy of poetry. It began in 2009 in Philadelphia. Each line in each poem featured on this page was written by a different hand. And each poem was at some point displayed through one city or another. While Exhibit Corpse is intended to be taken into the streets, we welcome your poetic handprint upon this virtual street as well! Please contact aeb95@temple.edu with questions, insights, poems, or anything you'd like to exhibit.

    • City unions with expired contracts eye SEPTA deal
For all the political drama and commuter inconvenience it caused, the SEPTA strike may have been just a curtain-raiser to a bigger act of labor strife, featuring the city of Philadelphia and 22,000 unionized city workers now laboring under expired contracts.
    • City: A $31 million deficit looms without more cuts
One year after Mayor Nutter announced the closure of fire companies, pools and libraries to fight a financial crisis of "incredible proportions," his administration announced today that the city will face a $31 million deficit unless further reductions are made next year.

Missed Connect Poems

As Exhibit Corpse teaches, poetry can happen anywhere! Check out this fun article in the NY Times:

“Come Ride With Me”

By ALAN FEUER
Published: June 5, 2009

Craigslist is an electronic snapshot of a community, classified advertising meets general store. It is the place to find a roommate — or a room, or what to furnish it with. Activities are listed, jobs are offered, services swapped.

The Missed Connections category is a treasure-trove of found poetry. These verses are taken verbatim from notices posted last week on newyork.craigslist.org, but for the added line and stanza breaks. The titles were the subject headings.

Visit the article to read the poems that resulted, but here is a brief preview:

Glasses at the Gym
I seriously cannot tell
if you’re checking me out
or are just liberal
with the eye contact
or what.
41st St NYSC,
we both wear glasses,
blah blah blah.
